Dancing on Christmas

Our show was published on the GCA newspaper:-) I was at the front and in white clothes.

Christmas is a big festival in western countries. GCA gave us a three-day holiday and we would have a big party to celebrate the Christmas and New Year on 31st of December. Dancing club always acts on the party, whatever Halloween or Art festival, so the leader Only gave this mission to another leader Mona because he had to act in Art festival. As a result, from the beginning of the December we began preparing for performance. Actually the time was limited, we needed to perform to the judgers for the first time on the Thursday. Unfortunately, Noah and I cooperated not very fluent and Richard did not remember the actions at all! However, Richard could not come because of the Taming of the Shrew, so the rest of us were given the small test. In the end we passed successfully. Before performing, there were some changes happening. First, three boys who danced the Break-dancing changed Richard to another boy, then Mona cancelled half of the performance because the whole time was too long. Actually I practiced a lot of times to remember all the actions, or I could not dance fluently, either. Eventually, I can dance with the music correctly. The party began and I felt a little nervous, I gave myself confidence for I have performed such many times, so I would not perform wrong or forget the actions. From the beginning it was quite fluent, however near the end, Mona got wrong actions. After finishing it, we played jokes on her that we laughed for a long time.
Although I performed successfully, I knew whatever how smart I was, I still had to practice.

Work as a volunteer

I did three kinds of the volunteer work in all to finish 10 hours as homework. First, I helped Ms. Hadley to paint the cupboards which used for the Taming of the Shrew, and then I helped Mr. Harris to clean his new office and make the hockey court.

Painting is a really interesting work indeed. First we carried the brushes, paper, colors and pans to the entrance of the white building. Then someone unfolded the paper on the ground, someone got the water from toilets, I carried the cupboard without painting out of the white building with others. After Ms. Hadley taught us how to paint and choose which color, I began paint the brown contour. I was quite nervous with strangers, although they came from GCA, too. Unfortunately, my friends were all working on another cupboard, so I felt more and more uncomfortable and changed the place in the end. However the work became happier later, I discovered that I had something not suitable for the teamwork. It is said that people born on Leo always like to command others because of the expecting. So did I, I ordered Zoe or Karen to do this instead of doing that many times and wanted the process happening likes my purpose. Eventually, they became a little angry and I realized the fault I have made. That became a good lesson to me that giving the suggestion is ok, but never ordering others. I also learned the patience is important, especially the painting. We needed to do the same work many times, so being patient from beginning to the end is what I need.
Hockey is a kind of famous sport in Canada. Winter is coming, Mr. Harris began to teach us how to play hockey. The first he needed is to have a clean office with PE instruments in order. On Saturdays, Bobby, Jack, Stephen, Nick, Jenny, Lucy, Angelina and I began helping Mr. Harris. The office before cleaning was so dirty that we even breathed the dust in the air. We needed to put the things belonging to NFLS in one room, so we carried all the dirty things out of the room first. Sometimes, we carried things individually; if the distance was long and room was small, we would stand in a line and pass the things one by one. Our work was efficient. After bringing all the things off the room, Mr. Harris leaded us how to put the instruments in order and use all the room as possible as we can. Because we needed to put things until the ceiling, one of my classmates needed to climb to the high place. Although the person was not me but Bobby or Jenny, we took care of them from time to time. The friendship and team spirit became obvious among us. We also transport the instruments from the office the hockey court by carts with four wheels, that we needed to push and hold at the same time with cooperation. We felt tired and thirsty sometimes, so Mr. Harris played hockey with us for five minutes and we laughed loudly with happiness. Mr. Harris even bought a big dinner for us and we chatted a lot. We taught him Chinese and he taught us “Are you busy?” for using on the table.
The volunteer work is tired, but I can learn much from it, not only patience, friendship, team spirit, also the value of myself and true emotion among us.
